A leading Kremlin propagandist has issued a chilling warning to Ukraine just as U.S. President Donald Trump considers giving Kyiv advanced weapons that could change the course of the war.
Vladimir Solovyov, a top Russian state TV host and close ally of Vladimir Putin, used his national broadcast to threaten Ukraine with “tactical nuclear weapons” if the U.S. goes ahead with supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles. His remarks came as President Trump prepares for a critical meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House this Friday.
During his show, Solovyov declared that nuclear strikes could “pave the way for Russian troops very quickly,” adding that the West would be “powerless to respond.” He mocked Western governments, saying they “wouldn’t dare” launch nuclear retaliation against Moscow.
The tension comes amid reports that President Trump has been weighing whether to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles long-range precision weapons capable of hitting deep inside Russian territory. Such a move would mark a major shift in U.S. military support for Kyiv and could dramatically alter the balance of power in the ongoing war.
Earlier this week, Trump and Zelensky held a phone conversation focused on Ukraine’s defense needs, including the protection of its energy grid and reinforcement of air defenses. The leaders also discussed broader peace efforts in the Middle East.
President Zelensky described the discussion as “very productive,” saying Trump “understands the full picture” and recognizes that “Russia fears the possibility of U.S. Tomahawks reaching Ukraine.”
Trump later told reporters that he has “sort of made a decision” about whether to send the missiles but added that he wants to “see how Ukraine plans to use them” before final approval.
The Kremlin’s heated rhetoric highlights growing anxiety in Moscow as Washington weighs this next phase of military support.
