Ukraine Strikes Russian Military Targets, Hits Sochi, and Pushes Back in Donetsk
Ukraine has reportedly launched a series of strategic attacks against Russian positions, including the use of British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles on a Russian command hub in occupied Donetsk. Early reports indicate that the strikes targeted the Topaz military plant and the Donetsk Metallurgical Plant, following Ukrainian forces’ recent seizure of a key Russian checkpoint.
Denis Pushilin, Kremlin-backed leader of the region, claimed that two people were killed and 17 injured during the bombardment. Ukrainian Palyanitsa drones also reportedly struck Donetsk and nearby Makiivka, contributing to the growing tally of Russian losses in 2025.
Russian media circulated images of missile fragments, allegedly confirming the use of Storm Shadow cruise missiles provided by Britain and France. If verified, this would mark only the second known use of such long-range weapons this year, raising questions about Ukraine’s remaining stockpile.
The Topaz facility is said to have served as a command center for Putin’s 41st Combined Arms Army, while the metallurgical plant reportedly housed the 20th Guards Motor Rifle Division. Footage shows smoke rising over central Donetsk following the attack.
Drone Strikes Reach Sochi
In another bold operation, Ukrainian forces reportedly hit Sochi, Russia’s premier Black Sea resort and the site of Putin’s summer residence, currently under renovation. One civilian was killed when drone debris struck his vehicle, and several homes were damaged. Krasnodar regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed the death and property damage, prompting temporary airport closures.
Long-Range Retaliation
Ukraine’s military intelligence also claimed responsibility for a revenge strike nearly 5,000 miles from the frontline, targeting a Russian base linked to atrocities committed in Bucha and Irpin three years ago. According to reports, two explosive devices detonated in a parking area near Military Unit 6912 of the 748th Separate Operational Battalion of the Russian Guards, resulting in both fatalities and injuries among Russian personnel. Following the attack, authorities allegedly restricted mobile internet and rerouted public transport to limit civilian awareness.
Continued Russian Attacks and Infrastructure Damage
Meanwhile, Russian forces continued shelling Ukrainian cities. In Kostiantynivka, a hospital was reduced to rubble, leaving the city’s healthcare system devastated. Footage shows a massive crater where the hospital once stood, with locals lamenting the destruction of facilities that saved countless lives.
Overnight, Shahed drones struck Zaporizhzhia, injuring a 66-year-old woman, while two children were wounded by explosions in Kupiansk district, Kharkiv region. Signs also emerged of Russian troop redeployments from northern areas, including the movement of BMP infantry vehicles and a Typhoon-K armored truck toward the frontline.
