Marjorie Taylor Greene to resign from Congress after Trump feud

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene once one of Donald Trump’s most loyal defenders has announced she will resign from Congress in January after being pushed out by her own party and increasingly clashing with the former president.

For years, Greene built her brand around unwavering support for Trump and the MAGA movement. But her recent shifts on issues like foreign conflicts and her pressure on Trump to release the Epstein files reportedly created a deep rift. Trump even lashed out publicly, calling her a “raving lunatic” and accusing her of drifting “far left,” a remarkable turn given their long-standing alliance.

In her resignation announcement, Greene expressed anger and exhaustion with Republican leadership, especially during what has become the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. She said she felt abandoned by her own colleagues as she pushed for reforms on healthcare and argued that GOP leaders had refused to address rising insurance costs that burden working families.

Greene wrote that she never fit into Washington’s political culture and framed her departure as the result of standing up for “the common American man and woman.” She also used her exit statement to criticize both parties, accusing them of fueling division instead of solving problems such as rising debt, stagnant wages, and the erosion of the middle class.

Interestingly, Greene has recently attracted unexpected praise from parts of the far-left after her harsh criticism of Israel and her renewed focus on government transparency, including over the Epstein files. But this stands in stark contrast to the years of backlash she faced from Democrats for spreading conspiracy theories, including her claims about “Jewish space lasers,” her support for QAnon, and her attacks on racial justice movements.

Her final message sounded like a sweeping condemnation of the political establishment, claiming that both Republicans and Democrats cater to corporate interests, prop up foreign wars, and leave working Americans struggling as costs rise and wages stagnate.

Greene’s resignation marks a dramatic end to one of the most polarizing and controversial political careers in modern U.S. politics — and highlights the deep fractures now tearing through the Republican Party as Trump’s influence continues to wobble.
