Trump plans 2028 White House run in bid to be US president '4EVA'

Donald Trump’s supporters appear to be exploring ways to bring him back to the White House for a third time even though the U.S. Constitution currently limits presidents to two terms.

Steve Bannon, one of Trump’s closest political allies and his former White House strategist, claimed that there’s an active plan underway to make Trump eligible for another run in 2028. In a recent interview with The Economist, Bannon said, “He’s going to get a third term. Trump is going to be president in ‘28, and people ought to just get accommodated with that.”

Trump, who has already served two terms, would normally be ineligible to run again due to the 22nd Amendment, which was ratified in 1951 to prevent any president from holding office more than twice. This amendment was introduced after Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four successful elections he was the only U.S. president to serve more than two terms before his death in 1945.

When asked if the Constitution would block Trump’s 2028 bid, Bannon hinted that his team has “many different alternatives” and added, “At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is, but there is a plan and Trump will be president in ‘28.”

He also pointed out that Trump’s previous campaigns had faced tougher odds: “We had longer odds in ‘16 and ‘24 than we’ve got in ‘28. We have to finish what we started.”

Bannon’s comments have sparked alarm among Democrats, many of whom view them as further evidence of Trump’s growing authoritarian ambitions. Last weekend, nearly seven million people across the United States joined a “No Kings” protest, calling for the protection of democratic term limits and warning against any effort to extend presidential power indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Trump himself seemed to fan the flames with a post on his Truth Social account. In the video, a mock Time magazine cover titled “How Trumpism Outlasts Trump” transitions into a montage of campaign signs reading “Trump 2028,” “Trump 2032,” “Trump 2036” and finally “Trump 4EVA.” The clip, set to the dramatic tune of In the Hall of the Mountain King, ends with the message suggesting Trump’s political influence could last forever.

While the 22nd Amendment makes a third term legally impossible under current law, Bannon’s remarks reveal that Trump’s inner circle may be testing political and legal strategies to challenge those limits a move that would almost certainly ignite one of the biggest constitutional battles in modern U.S. history.
