Trump Heads to Walter Reed for “Routine Check-Up” Amid Health Speculation and Government Turmoil
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Wednesday that President Donald Trump will visit Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for what officials describe as a “planned meeting with service members” — followed by a “routine yearly check-up.”
The president’s visit comes just one day after he chaired his eighth cabinet meeting, where observers noted his more pronounced orange complexion. The session unfolded against the backdrop of a partial government shutdown, ongoing disputes over National Guard deployments in Illinois and Oregon, and reports of a possible Israel–Hamas peace framework.
According to Leavitt’s statement, “While there, President Trump will stop by for his routine yearly check-up before returning to the White House.”
During a Wednesday roundtable, Trump also hinted at a potential trip to the Middle East, saying, “I’ll be going to Egypt, most likely, that’s where everybody is gathered right now.”
This marks the president’s second medical evaluation this year. His first physical, conducted in April, included comprehensive diagnostic and laboratory tests. White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella stated at the time that Trump was in “excellent health”, both cognitively and physically, and “fully fit to execute the duties of Commander-in-Chief.”
However, questions surrounding Trump’s health have resurfaced online in recent weeks after he was absent from public view for several days leading up to Labor Day. Social media users also noted a bruise on the back of his right hand, which appeared at times to be covered with makeup.
The White House dismissed the rumors in February, attributing the mark to Trump “constantly working and shaking hands all day every day.”
At 79 years old, Trump remains the oldest president ever elected, surpassing Joe Biden, who was a few months younger when he took office in 2020.
Later today, President Trump is also scheduled to meet with the President of Finland at the White House.
