The White House has officially denied claims suggesting that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth could soon be dismissed from his position, reaffirming that President Donald Trump maintains “full confidence” in him.
In a statement shared with The Daily Express U.S., White House spokesperson Anna Kelly dismissed the reports, saying they were entirely untrue and based on misleading speculation from a recent Daily Beast podcast.
“President Trump has full confidence in Secretary Hegseth and values his commitment to strengthening the Department of War’s focus on readiness and national defense,” Kelly said.
The Pentagon echoed the same sentiment, confirming that Secretary Hegseth is not expected to leave his post anytime soon. Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson further commented that the speculation circulating online holds no credibility.
The rumor initially gained attention after David Gardner, Washington bureau chief at The Daily Beast, suggested during a podcast discussion that Hegseth might not last beyond the one-year mark in the administration. Gardner linked his comments to what he described as a strategic pattern in Trump’s leadership style during his first term, where Cabinet positions frequently changed hands.
“We were told the president intended to give most top officials about a year before considering any reshuffling,” Gardner explained, implying that early 2026 could bring potential changes.
Political reporter Sarah Ewall-Wice added that such an approach could reflect a broader internal strategy one where Cabinet members are encouraged to prove their loyalty and performance to retain their roles.
Despite these claims, officials close to the administration insist that Hegseth’s position remains stable and that there is “no truth” to rumors of his removal.
As of now, neither the White House nor the Department of War has announced any planned changes in leadership, signaling that Secretary Hegseth continues to enjoy the president’s trust and support.
