According to an upcoming political book, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was reportedly furious with former President Barack Obama after an incident during a Hollywood fundraising event in June 2024.
The claim comes from “Retribution: Donald Trump and the Campaign That Changed America”, a new book by ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl. In it, Hunter Biden allegedly told Karl that he almost walked onto the stage to confront Obama after the former president took Joe Biden’s hand and guided him offstage.
Hunter reportedly said, “I almost jumped up on the stage and said, ‘Don’t ever do that to the President of the United States again ever.’” He later admitted he was angry because he knew that brief moment would spread online as a meme suggesting his father was physically frail.
“I knew that was going to be a meme,” Hunter said, explaining how much the moment frustrated him. “That really, really, really, really pissed me off.”
The White House quickly dismissed claims of the president’s declining health, arguing that the videos being circulated were edited and taken out of context. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre commented that such clips were “manipulated videos done in bad faith,” calling them part of a partisan effort to mislead the public.
Interestingly, that same June fundraiser became a major talking point weeks later, when actor and filmmaker George Clooney, who co-hosted the event with Barbra Streisand, Julia Roberts, and Jimmy Kimmel, wrote an op-ed in The New York Times expressing concern about President Biden’s health.
Clooney, who described himself as a friend and longtime supporter of the president, wrote:
“The Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe Biden of 2020. He wasn’t even the Joe ‘big deal’ Biden of 2010.”
Clooney’s words gained national attention and reportedly angered Hunter Biden once again. During a later interview, Hunter vented his frustration, saying he felt betrayed by people in Hollywood who had once supported his father.
He said during an appearance on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan that he agreed with filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s view that “George Clooney is more of a brand than an actor.”
The exchange added to ongoing online debates about Joe Biden’s health, media portrayal of political figures, and the role of Hollywood in politics.
Videos of the president being guided by other world leaders including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the G7 Summit have also fueled viral speculation. However, the Biden administration continues to push back on such narratives, labeling them as misleading and politically motivated.
