Gustavo Petro Condemns Donald Trump Over Caribbean Strike That Killed Colombian Fisherman

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has strongly condemned Donald Trump following reports that a Colombian fishing boat was destroyed during a recent U.S. military strike in the Caribbean. According to Petro, the attack claimed the life of a lifelong fisherman named Alejandro Carranza, who was reportedly adrift due to an engine failure.

In a powerful series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), President Petro expressed outrage and grief, saying the United States had “violated Colombia’s sovereignty” and “killed an honest, hardworking man.” He called on Colombia’s Attorney General to launch a full investigation and offer legal protection to the victim’s family, even suggesting that they coordinate with families affected by similar incidents in Trinidad and Tobago to seek justice internationally.

“The boat attacked on September 16 was Colombian. It had engine damage and was turned off, presumably in Colombian waters. The man aboard was a lifelong fisherman, Alejandro Carranza, who has not returned home,” Petro wrote.

He continued, urging the U.S. to explain how such an operation was allowed to happen:

“Fisherman Alejandro Carranza had no ties to the drug trade. His daily activity was fishing. The Colombian boat was adrift and had its distress signal raised due to an engine failure. We await explanations from the U.S. government.”

President Petro also emphasized that his criticism was not directed toward the American people themselves:

“I respect the history, culture, and people of the United States. Americans are not our enemies. The problem is with Trump, who does not understand the concept of humanity,” he wrote.

Petro added that Trump’s approach reflects a lack of empathy and a misunderstanding of why ordinary people stand up for justice and humanity both within and outside their own borders.

Meanwhile, investigative journalist Seth Harp, author of The Fort Bragg Cartel, has been tracking these alleged U.S. military strikes. He argues that the operations show serious flaws in targeting intelligence and could expose what he calls “systemic recklessness” within certain military operations.

As these revelations continue to unfold, questions are being raised about the legality and morality of these attacks and what accountability, if any, will follow.

At its heart, President Petro’s message is a plea for justice and humanity a reminder that no geopolitical goal should ever justify the loss of innocent lives.
