Fox News airs devastating blow to Trump as 'US on brink of civil war'

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has sparked nationwide debate after warning that the United States is “on the brink of a civil war,” citing growing political polarization and unrest across the country.

During an appearance on Fox News, Cuomo criticized both major parties and voiced alarm about what he called the “internal chaos” tearing America apart. He argued that the nation’s divisions have reached a breaking point and that political leaders must take responsibility before the situation escalates further.

Cuomo, a moderate Democrat, also took direct aim at his party’s progressive wing, accusing it of alienating voters through extreme positions. “This is still an ongoing civil war within the Democratic Party,” he said. “You have this extreme radical left that’s what Zohran Mamdani represents. They are anti-business, anti-police, and anti-law and order. They are anti-Israel. And I am a moderate Democrat.”

The former governor’s comments came amid growing tension in the New York City mayoral race, where Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old state assemblyman and self-described socialist, has emerged as the frontrunner. Cuomo questioned Mamdani’s readiness to lead, citing his limited executive experience:

“Being mayor means you have to manage crises storms, shootings, emergencies. You need real operational experience. I have governed for over a decade and know what it takes.”

Cuomo also used the interview to defend his own record as he hints at a potential political comeback. “I’ve been Governor for 11 years, Housing Secretary under President Clinton, and Attorney General. I know how to govern,” he said.

Recent polls by Gotham Polling and AARP show Cuomo trailing Mamdani but gaining ground, especially among older voters. The survey indicates that if Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa withdraws, Cuomo could potentially close the gap within the margin of error.

Meanwhile, New York continues to struggle with rising rents, public safety concerns, and homelessness, issues central to this year’s mayoral race. Mamdani’s outspoken positions particularly his criticism of Israel and reluctance to condemn Hamas have fueled debate among voters, especially within New York’s large Jewish community.

Cuomo’s warning about a “civil war” in America reflects a broader concern about the country’s direction and signals that he may be positioning himself once again as a voice for centrist Democrats amid a turbulent political landscape.
