U.S. President Donald Trump offered a brief update about his health while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he departed for Tokyo this week. The 79-year-old president revealed that he recently underwent an MRI at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on October 10.
When asked about the reason for the scan, Trump gave a short but confident reply:
“It was perfect.”
Pressed further by reporters, he said that any medical details could be confirmed by his doctors, adding,
“If I didn’t think it was going to be good, either I would let you know negatively, I wouldn’t run, I’d do something. But the doctors said some of the best reports for the age some of the best they’ve ever seen.”
The President’s comments come after speculation about his health following an unannounced hospital visit earlier this month.
What Is an MRI?
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed internal images of the body. Doctors use MRIs to monitor various conditions, from joint problems to heart and brain health.
What Did Trump’s Medical Report Reveal?
According to a statement released by White House physician Capt. Dr. Sean Barbabella in July, Trump underwent a “comprehensive examination” that showed he has chronic venous insufficiency, a common and non-serious condition that affects blood flow in the legs.
Dr. Barbabella assured that the president “remains in excellent health.” He also clarified that the visible bruise on Trump’s right hand is a result of “minor soft-tissue irritation” linked to frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin as part of a standard heart-health regimen.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also addressed the issue earlier, telling Fox News Digital that the mark on Trump’s hand comes from his active engagement with the public:
“President Trump is a man of the people. He meets and shakes hands with more Americans on a daily basis than any other president in history.”
This explanation matches earlier reports, including a March 2024 Washington Examiner feature that noted Trump’s bruise was caused by “vigorous handshaking.”
