ABC’s World News Tonight temporarily halted its regular Sunday broadcast to cover the massive nationwide “No Kings” protests a movement drawing millions of demonstrators and several well-known public figures, including actor Pedro Pascal.
Anchor Mary Bruce, filling in for Linsey Davis, broke into the program with a live update.
She told viewers:
“Millions of Americans from New York to Georgia, Texas, California, and beyond are taking to the streets to protest the Trump administration’s policies. This may be the largest one-day protest in the U.S. in more than 50 years.”
Bruce then handed the coverage over to Andrew Dymburt, who provided updates as footage from across the country aired on-screen.
Dymburt reported that “President Trump mocked the millions of peaceful demonstrators who joined what’s being described as one of the largest single-day demonstrations in U.S. history.”
According to The Mirror, Trump’s team also shared a controversial AI-generated video depicting the former president wearing a crown, flying a military jet, and dropping waste over protesters labeled as “No Kings.”
Reporters noted that approximately seven million Americans participated in 2,700 rallies across the nation.
ABC later posted a short clip from the breaking news segment on its official Instagram account, captioned:
“Activists and advocacy groups staged a second round of ‘No Kings’ protests across the country, criticizing what they call abuse of power by the Trump administration including immigration crackdowns and the deployment of troops to U.S. cities.”
The post quickly drew thousands of reactions from viewers.
One commenter wrote:
“Strange how they didn’t show the part of the video where Trump dumps sewage on protesters.”
Another user said:
“So proud of our country yesterday. People are finally waking up to what’s really happening. Let’s stay united against fascism.”
A third added simply:
“What an accomplishment and a reminder that we still have no kings in this country. Good job, everyone.”
