Cheryl Hines, the wife of independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., faced a tense and uncomfortable interview on The View, where the hosts grilled her about her husband’s controversial statements and qualifications.
The discussion quickly turned heated when co-host Sunny Hostin questioned Kennedy’s suitability for public office. “Your husband is the least qualified Department of Health and Human Services head that we’ve had in history,” Hostin said, referring to Kennedy’s public health comments and his history of spreading medical misinformation.
Hines appeared visibly flustered as she tried to defend him. “Why is he less qualified than an economist? How is that possible?” she asked, before repeating several points about his past legal work against large corporations.
Hostin didn’t back down, saying: “He’s spread a lot of misinformation, chaos, and confusion. That’s a very dangerous thing, and I say that with respect.”
Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg also joined in, pressing Hines about various statements her husband has made over the years, including false claims about vaccines and even bizarre comments connecting circumcision to autism.
At one point, Behar lightened the mood with a biting question about the now-infamous “brain worm” story. “Does he or does he not have a brain worm?” she asked.
Hines awkwardly replied, “It ate just a little bit of his brain and died, so don’t worry.”
The hosts responded with laughter and disbelief, joking about whether “the brain died” or “the worm did.”
Later, co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin confronted Hines about Kennedy’s statements discouraging the use of Tylenol during pregnancy. Hines tried to clarify that people should “consult their doctors,” but Griffin reminded her that Kennedy had bluntly told the public “not to take it.”
Despite the tense exchange, Hines maintained her support for her husband, even defending his skepticism toward vaccines. When Behar reminded her that such rhetoric “makes Americans very nervous,” Hines insisted that parents’ concerns should be listened to.
The interview underscored how divisive Kennedy’s campaign has become, even among voters once curious about his message. While Hines tried to stay composed, it was clear that The View hosts weren’t going to let her off easy and the viral segment has since sparked widespread debate online.
