The UK recently confirmed that Royal Air Force (RAF) jets will begin air defence missions over Poland in response to increasing aerial threats from Russia. This move is part of NATO’s wider strategy to reinforce its eastern members after recent provocations from Moscow.
Just last week, Russia sent 23 drones into Polish airspace, escalating tensions in the region. In response, British Typhoon fighter jets will soon begin patrols under NATO’s “Eastern Sentry” mission, working alongside French Rafale aircraft that were recently deployed by President Emmanuel Macron.
However, Moscow’s state-controlled media has launched an aggressive campaign against this NATO presence. Vladimir Solovyov, one of President Putin’s most prominent TV propagandists, went as far as threatening death to RAF pilots. He also tried to stir fear by claiming that French Rafales “could carry nuclear weapons,” although he admitted there is no evidence that such weapons were deployed. He warned viewers that every takeoff of these Western jets should be seen as “the beginning of nuclear war.”
The Kremlin has also toughened its rhetoric. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared that “NATO is at war with Russia,” pointing to Western military and logistical support for Ukraine as proof. At the same time, Russia showcased its own firepower by flying Tu-160 nuclear-capable bombers over the Barents Sea during its Zapad-2025 war games.
Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to suffer under relentless strikes. Russian forces hit civilian areas across multiple regions, including Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy. In Zaporizhzhia, a 41-year-old man was killed and 13 others injured, among them a young child, after drone and missile attacks sparked massive fires. In Kyiv, a shopping complex was targeted during rescue efforts, and in Sumy, a gas distribution facility was attacked with drones.
The growing tension in Eastern Europe shows how NATO’s defensive measures are being met with increasingly aggressive threats from Moscow. While the alliance stresses that its actions are defensive, Kremlin-controlled media continues to portray NATO’s presence as an act of war, raising fears of further escalation.
Putin sees himself as the one who has the use whatever weapon against Ukraine. He wants to dictate how the war will be fought. He invaded a sovereign nation, has the support of both China and North Korea and he doesn't want any support for Ukraine! That is inhuman, unrealistic and unreasonable.
