Donald Trump made headlines after openly praising King Charles during his recent state visit to the United Kingdom. Speaking to reporters as he departed Windsor, the US President summed up his feelings about the British monarch in five words: “He is a wonderful guy.”
Trump described the highlight of his visit as spending time with King Charles and exploring Windsor Castle’s historic artwork. “I think being with King Charles was the best part. He’s a wonderful guy. I got to know him very well. I knew him before, but now I know him a lot better,” Trump said.
The former First Lady Melania Trump also attended the two-day stay at Windsor, where the couple was hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla. The visit included a state banquet, which Trump joked about when asked what was on the menu: “Whatever the hell they served us.”
In interviews, Trump continued to speak highly of King Charles, calling him a “great person” and a “tremendous man” who has shown resilience after facing health challenges. He added: “He really stepped into a tough position, following Queen Elizabeth. She’s got the all-time record!”
Trump even hinted at plans to invite King Charles and Queen Camilla to the United States next year, reinforcing the close ties between the two nations.
However, the visit was not without controversy. In central London, around 3,000 demonstrators, backed by roughly 50 campaign groups, gathered to protest. The groups voiced opposition to “the politics of Trumpism” and promoted an alternative vision based on peace, social justice, and international cooperation.
Despite the protests, Trump described the trip as one of the “highest honours” of his life and praised the Royal Family for their hospitality.
