During the recent 9/11 memorial event, some viewers noticed what looked like the right side of Donald Trump’s face drooping. This sparked widespread speculation online, with several people suggesting he may have suffered a stroke.
On social media, some users even claimed medical professionals believed it resembled a stroke. Others expressed concern that the President appeared to be declining in front of the public eye.
However, health experts who reviewed the footage offered a more cautious perspective.
Dr. Gareth Nye, a lecturer in Biomedical Science at the University of Salford, told The Express that the images circulating online might simply be the result of “well-timed photos” rather than a genuine medical emergency. He explained that while facial drooping can indeed be a sign of a stroke, there were no clear issues with Trump’s speech, cognition, or movement during the event.
Dr. Nye also pointed out other possible explanations, such as Bell’s Palsy a condition affecting facial nerves that can cause temporary paralysis on one side of the face. He noted that if a true stroke had occurred, it would have likely been severe enough to require immediate medical intervention, given the urgency of treatment.
Family physician Dr. Kathie Allen echoed this, stating that although she strongly disagrees with Trump politically, Bell’s Palsy was a plausible explanation. She stressed that with access to the best medical care, any stroke symptoms would have resulted in Trump being rushed to the hospital without delay.
The NHS lists common stroke symptoms under the acronym FAST:
- Face: one side of the face drooping or difficulty smiling
- Arms: inability to lift both arms evenly
- Speech: slurred or confused speech
- Time: urgent medical attention is critical
While speculation about Trump’s health often dominates headlines, the expert consensus in this case leans toward less alarming explanations than a stroke.
