Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sharply criticized recent Russian attacks, calling them “a typical day for Russia.” Overnight on Tuesday, Russian forces launched multiple rocket strikes on Zaporizhzhia, a southern Ukrainian city, injuring 20 people, including four children, according to Kyiv officials. Regional authorities reported that over 20 apartment buildings were hit, causing significant fires.
In addition, a Russian drone targeted Kharkiv’s National Pharmaceutical University, wounding four people. Zelensky shared a video of the strike on social media, emphasizing that such attacks continue due to insufficient global pressure on Moscow.
“The only reason Russia can afford all this is that it doesn’t face serious consequences,” Zelensky wrote on X. “Until the world imposes significant economic and political losses, Russia will avoid true diplomacy and prolong the war.”
He called on international leaders to respond decisively, urging Europe, the United States, the G7, and G20 to implement stronger sanctions, tariffs, and protective measures to safeguard civilian lives.
This plea comes amid renewed efforts by US President Donald Trump to broker peace. Despite months of diplomatic pressure and threats of sanctions, no concrete settlement has emerged, and previous deadlines for Russian engagement have passed without action.
Tensions escalated last week when Russian drones crossed into Polish territory, prompting NATO fighter jets to intercept them. European officials described the incident as a deliberate provocation.
In response, Zelensky proposed the creation of a “multilayered air defense system” to protect European skies. He emphasized that the technology exists, and what is needed now are investments, political will, and strong collaborative decisions from international partners.
