Over the years, there has been much speculation about Queen Elizabeth II’s opinion of former U.S. President Donald Trump. During his official state visit to the UK in 2019, the Queen spent time with him, which sparked debates about whether she liked him or not.
Some observers believed the Queen got along with Trump, while others suggested she was less impressed. Interestingly, writer Craig Brown shared in his book A Voyage Around The Queen that the late monarch once made a rather surprising remark about Trump’s relationship with his wife, Melania.
According to Brown, Queen Elizabeth commented that Donald Trump and Melania Trump “must have some sort of arrangement” in their marriage. He suggested she questioned why Melania had chosen to remain married to him unless there was a specific understanding between them.
Donald Trump, however, believed he was a favorite guest of the Queen. In an interview with Fox News, he once said people told him they had never seen the Queen “more animated” than during his visit.
But Brown also wrote that privately, the Queen described Trump as “very rude.” She reportedly disliked how he would look over her shoulder during conversations, as though searching for more interesting company.
While Queen Elizabeth may have had mixed feelings about him, King Charles III is said to have a friendlier rapport with both Donald and Melania Trump. In fact, Melania revealed in her memoir that she had exchanged letters with Charles before, suggesting a warmer connection.
As Donald and Melania Trump prepare for another state visit to the UK, they are expected to reunite with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
