During Donald Trump’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom, his wife Melania Trump made headlines with a brief but telling comment about Princess Kate.
While the former U.S. president met Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, the First Lady joined Queen Camilla and Princess Kate in Windsor for several joint engagements. One highlight was a visit to the grounds of Frogmore House, where Melania participated in activities with local Scouts.
It was there that a young Scout asked Melania if she was “going to be the next princess.” Smiling, she politely gestured towards Princess Kate and responded with just five words: “She’s the only princess here.”
The moment was seen as a gesture of respect toward Kate Middleton, the future queen consort.
The trip itself was historic Donald Trump became the first U.S. president to be granted two state visits to the U.K., his first having taken place in 2019 when Queen Elizabeth II was on the throne and Theresa May was Prime Minister.
The Trumps were honored guests of King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, attending a state banquet at St George’s Hall alongside senior members of the Royal Family. According to lip readers, at one point President Trump turned to King Charles and remarked, “It’s so incredible, it’s what you do so well.”
In his banquet speech, Trump described the invitation for a second state visit as “the highest honour” of his life and praised the “special relationship” between the U.K. and the U.S., saying that the phrase “does not begin to do it justice.”
After returning to Washington, Trump spoke warmly about the hospitality he and Melania received, calling King Charles “a wonderful guy” and saying the royal family “treated our country great.” He also revealed that Melania particularly enjoyed her time with Princess Kate, describing her as “a very wonderful person.”
This visit not only highlighted U.S.–U.K. relations but also showcased the cordial bond between Melania Trump and Princess Kate, underlined by a simple five-word comment that reflected admiration and respect.
There is no such person as Princess Kate.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess of Wales has always used Catherine.
Also in the UK to be Princess (firstname) you must be born royal.
Just as there never was a Princess Diana. Sloppy journalism.
