During a recent Fox News interview, journalist Lara Trump asked Vice President JD Vance a straightforward question: Does he plan to run for president in 2028?
Instead of giving a clear “yes” or “no,” Vance carefully sidestepped. He said:
“I don’t like thinking about it because I like thinking about the job that I have right now. If we do a good job in 2025 and 2026, then we can talk about politics in 2027. The American people are fed up with folks already running for the next job just months into the current one.”
He added that there are many strong potential candidates in the Republican Party and emphasized that nothing would be “handed to him.” Vance also highlighted that being vice president along with being a father to his three children is the most important role of his life.
The exchange sparked debate online. Some viewers joked that Vance’s answer was basically a “yes,” with one quipping: “He says he’s not thinking about 2028, but he’s already measuring the Oval Office curtains.”
Others felt it was a textbook politician’s move: focus on today, dodge tomorrow. Meanwhile, speculation grew about whether Donald Trump himself might try for a historic third run in 2028, or if Vance is quietly positioning himself as the next Republican frontrunner.
So the big question remains did JD Vance just strategically avoid confirming his 2028 ambitions, or is he genuinely focused only on the present?
