GB News halted for King Charles as true colours to be 'revealed' after 'Trump hug'

In a much-anticipated and unusual encounter, King Charles and former U.S. President Donald Trump are set to meet in the UK. While the event is being described as historic, royal experts suggest it may also be uncomfortable for the monarch.

Royal historian Alexander Larman, speaking on GB News, noted that King Charles is unlikely to relish the meeting. He described the two men as representing “two entirely separate worldviews.” Larman explained that the invitation was largely a political decision encouraged by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, rather than something the King would have initiated himself.

“Charles is a very traditional, conservative figure, and President Trump isn’t,” Larman said. “What we’re seeing is a clash of very different perspectives on leadership, tradition, and diplomacy.”

Trump’s admiration for the Royal Family has long been evident, but his unconventional style often defies protocol. Some observers even speculate he might attempt something as unorthodox as hugging the King, a gesture that would push the boundaries of royal etiquette. According to Larman, if such a moment were to occur, King Charles would likely have no choice but to reciprocate in order to avoid an awkward diplomatic scene.

Much attention will also be focused on the handshake between the two leaders. Trump’s handshakes have become legendary for their unusual length or intensity, with one memorable example being his 30-second handshake with French President Emmanuel Macron in 2017.

While the state visit is being promoted as an opportunity to strengthen U.S.–UK relations and highlight Britain’s world-class pageantry, some royal commentators point out that a second state visit for Trump is unprecedented. Traditionally, one visit is seen as the norm.

“This reinforces the idea that Trump sees himself as different from other leaders,” Larman observed. “He has always believed he is exceptional, and increasingly, the world seems to indulge that belief.”

For King Charles, the meeting may be more about fulfilling diplomatic duty than personal enthusiasm. Still, the symbolism of this high-profile encounter will likely spark global debate about tradition, protocol, and the evolving relationship between the monarchy and international politics.
