A lip reading expert has decoded a heated yet private exchange between Donald Trump and Melania Trump that went viral online. The footage shows the former President and First Lady having a finger-wagging discussion through the windows of Marine One, captured on the South Lawn.
The clip quickly drew attention on social media, with many comparing it to the viral moment when Brigitte Macron seemingly shoved French President Emmanuel Macron in May.
Lip reading specialist Jeremy Freeman analyzed the exchange and suggested that Donald Trump’s comments were about the recent “escalator-gate” incident at the United Nations General Assembly, rather than a dispute with his wife.
According to Freeman, Melania Trump reportedly said: “You just continued…” to which Donald replied: “It was unbelievable.” Melania then responded: “Just say it and leave it…” followed by Trump, seemingly frustrated: “How can you do that…”
Despite the animated conversation, the couple later exited the helicopter hand-in-hand and walked across the lawn. The escalator incident in Manhattan involved a broken escalator at the UN, prompting Trump to share on Truth Social that it was “amazing that Melania and I didn't fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first. It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly, or it would have been a disaster.”
Earlier this year, Trump also offered advice regarding the viral moment involving Brigitte Macron and Emmanuel Macron, jokingly telling reporters: “Make sure the door remains closed.” He reassured that the couple was fine, adding, “They're two really good people. I know him very well.”
This latest clip adds to the growing fascination with public moments between political couples, showing that even world leaders experience candid, human interactions.
