Good Morning Britain’s Dr Hilary Jones has strongly criticized Donald Trump for suggesting that paracetamol use during pregnancy could be linked to autism.
Speaking with Alex Beresford on ITV, Dr Hilary described Trump’s comments as “unsubstantiated theories” and “complete nonsense.” He explained that paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen in the US, has been used safely for over 100 years and remains the recommended pain reliever for pregnant women when taken appropriately.
“There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that paracetamol causes autism,” Dr Hilary said, stressing that both UK and US medical experts have dismissed Trump’s claims as “pseudoscience and irresponsible.” He further warned that spreading such misinformation could put pregnant women and their babies at risk.
The TV doctor urged expectant mothers to continue following NHS guidelines: paracetamol is considered safe when taken under medical supervision to manage fever or pain.
Trump’s remarks came during a press event at the Oval Office alongside Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., where he suggested that US doctors may soon be advised not to prescribe Tylenol to pregnant women. Tylenol’s manufacturer, Kenvue, quickly defended the drug, stating:
“Independent, sound science clearly shows that acetaminophen does not cause autism. We strongly disagree with any suggestion otherwise and are deeply concerned about the risks this misinformation poses for expecting mothers.”
Meanwhile, Kennedy claimed that the FDA will soon approve the cancer drug Leucovorin as a treatment option for children with autism a statement that has also sparked skepticism among health experts.
With medical professionals “queuing up” to dismiss these controversial claims, Dr Hilary emphasized one clear message: pregnant women should not be alarmed and should continue to follow established medical advice.
Neither one of you are Dr's. Why figer point?
