President Donald Trump turned recent viral rumors about his supposed “demise” into a joke during a high-profile tech dinner on Thursday.
The online chatter began last weekend after Trump remained unusually quiet for several days. His absence fueled speculation on social media, with hashtags about his “death” trending across platforms. Some users pointed to recent photos showing bruises on his right hand, visible ankle swelling, and reports about his chronic venous insufficiency as reasons for concern.
Trump brushed off the claims with humor. “Although I’m still here. We had a couple of bad predictions, so that was not good. I’ve never had that feeling before,” he said, adding that people even came up to him asking, “You’re still here?”
Over the weekend, Trump denied the rumors directly on Truth Social, posting that he had “never felt better” and had spent Labor Day golfing, giving interviews, and posting messages online.
Interestingly, his campaign fundraising team used the viral story to energize supporters. Emails went out with subject lines such as “I’m alive!” and “I want to try and get to heaven.” The messages framed the false reports as “fake news” from the “radical left,” while asking donors to contribute to a 24-hour fundraising drive.
This marks Trump’s first major appearance back in the Oval Office since the speculation. Observers noted that he looked more “weathered” than usual, sparking further commentary about his health.
When asked by reporters about the rumors, Trump laughed them off. “I didn’t see it. I’ve been very active. But I skipped a couple of press events and suddenly people thought something happened to me. Biden can go months without being seen and nobody says a word,” he quipped.
The incident highlights how quickly online speculation can spread, especially regarding high-profile political figures. For Trump, it also became another opportunity to mock the media, rally supporters, and use controversy as a fundraising tool.
