Karoline Leavitt, former assistant press secretary for Donald Trump, shared emotional insights about the former president’s reaction to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, a prominent figure in the MAGA movement and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot during a university event last week. His tragic death has shaken Trump’s inner circle and left a lasting void among his supporters.
Vice President JD Vance hosted a special tribute episode of The Charlie Kirk Show on Monday, calling it an honor to “pay tribute to my friend.” Just days earlier, Vance and his wife Usha had personally escorted Kirk’s coffin on a flight to Phoenix.
During the program, Leavitt described how Kirk had inspired her as a Gen Z conservative and explained that Trump’s team worked closely with him because of his unique ability to connect with young voters nationwide. She emphasized that Trump and Kirk developed a powerful bond over the years.
“The president loved Charlie deeply… I know he is deeply hurt by this loss because Charlie played an instrumental role in returning the president to the Oval Office,” Leavitt said.
She recalled that Kirk was “speechless for the first time in his life” when Trump won reelection in November 2024, becoming only the second U.S. president in history to serve non-consecutive terms.
Meanwhile, Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Kirk’s murder, is facing multiple charges including aggravated murder, felony firearm discharge resulting in serious injury, and obstruction of justice. Reports suggest he is refusing to cooperate with investigators, while his transgender partner has also been confirmed in connection to the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
