Vice President JD Vance hosted Monday’s episode of The Charlie Kirk Show directly from his White House office, honoring his late friend Charlie Kirk, who was tragically shot and killed last week while speaking at Utah Valley University.
Kirk, just 31 years old, was the founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative organization aimed at mobilizing young evangelical Christians in politics. He was also a close confidant of former President Donald Trump and played a key role in Trump’s political strategy.
During the podcast, Vance called Kirk “the smartest political operative I’ve met” and described him as a “joyful warrior” who dedicated his life to faith, family, and country. At one point, Vance spoke with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller about Kirk’s impact, though a minor technical glitch with Vance’s microphone briefly distracted viewers. The issue was quickly fixed after a short break.
Following Kirk’s death, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder. Authorities say capital murder charges may be filed as early as Tuesday. While investigators have not officially confirmed a motive, Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that Robinson’s friends and family noticed his political views had shifted sharply left in recent years. Evidence also suggested exposure to radical online communities. Disturbingly, investigators found taunting anti-fascist messages engraved on the ammunition used in the attack.
Vice President Vance personally accompanied Kirk’s casket to Arizona aboard Air Force Two, underscoring the depth of their friendship. Turning Point USA has announced a public memorial service for Kirk on September 21 at State Farm Stadium outside Phoenix, where thousands are expected to gather.
