When US President Donald Trump arrived at Chequers for his first official meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the setting was designed to showcase tradition and diplomacy. But according to a body language expert, the subtle gestures between the two leaders told a very different story.
As Trump’s motorcade pulled into the historic Buckinghamshire estate, he was greeted by Sir Keir and Lady Victoria Starmer. After the customary handshake, the leaders posed briefly for photographers before heading inside for talks on trade, global security, and the UK–US relationship.
Celebrity psychic and body language expert Inbaal Honigman observed signs of unease in Trump’s demeanor. She explained:
- Pressed lips and raised chin: Indicators of tension and possible insecurity.
- Forward-rolled posture: Suggesting Trump was bracing himself, rather than relaxed.
- Lack of enthusiasm: A contrast to the broad smiles Trump displayed at the Windsor Castle banquet the night before.
Honigman suggested this combination could signal that Trump felt “threatened” or uncomfortable during the meeting.
Interestingly, Starmer didn’t appear entirely relaxed either. His smile, according to the expert, was “with the lips only,” not reaching the eyes or cheeks, signaling formality rather than warmth. His movements were described as curt and businesslike, reflecting a strictly professional approach.
As both leaders slowly walked up the stairs with arms loosely by their sides, the expert noted that their body language conveyed a mutual lack of enthusiasm almost as if both men would have preferred to be elsewhere.
The Chequers talks followed a lavish state banquet at Windsor Castle, where Trump and King Charles highlighted the “special relationship” between Britain and the United States. Later in the day, Trump and Starmer were expected to brief business leaders and hold a joint press conference to present the outcomes of their discussions.
