Piers Morgan says 'Donald Trump left me sweating' as he admits 'complete disaster'

Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has revealed that his highly anticipated interview with Donald Trump nearly turned into a disaster all because of a last-minute “dirty trick.”

Morgan, known for his outspoken nature and strong defense of free speech, told The Daily Telegraph that just moments before he was due to sit down with the U.S. President, Trump was handed a dossier filled with every negative comment Morgan had ever made about him.

“Donald Trump was basically losing his mind at me,” Morgan recalled. “He started reading it out loud: ‘Did you call me a mob boss? Did you say I should never run for office again? How could you do this to me my Apprentice?’”

According to Morgan, he quickly realized who was behind it Nigel Farage, who had just launched his own rival show on GB News. Morgan believes Farage sent the document to Trump to sabotage the interview and damage his show’s launch.

“I was sweating,” Morgan admitted. “I thought, this interview’s over. I started thinking on my feet like I would on Celebrity Apprentice: How do I get out of this mess?”

That’s when inspiration struck through golf.

Trump is famously passionate about the sport, reportedly spending around 38 of his first 280 days in office on the golf course roughly 13% of his time as president. Morgan remembered reading an interview with South African golf legend Ernie Els, who had recently played with Trump and witnessed him make a hole-in-one.

Morgan decided to bring it up.

“I said to him, ‘Let’s talk about some positive things too.’ Trump asked, ‘Like what?’ And I said, ‘Your hole-in-one. Everyone’s talking about it.’”

Instantly, Trump’s mood shifted.

Morgan recalled, “He brightened up straight away. I told him what Ernie Els had said that it was one of the best shots he’d ever seen and that Trump was the best presidential golfer he’d played with. Trump grinned and said, ‘All right, let’s do the interview.’”

That quick thinking saved the entire segment and Morgan later joked that he was “saved by Ernie.”

However, he hasn’t forgotten Farage’s alleged role in the chaos. Morgan described the Reform Party leader as a “treacherous weasel”, saying:

“When Nigel interviewed Trump a few months earlier, I congratulated him and said, ‘Great hit.’ He thanked me and then he went back to London and tried to wreck my interview. Some gratitude, right?”
