First Lady Melania Trump was never planning to leave her husband, Donald Trump, even during some of his most turbulent moments, according to her former press secretary and close aide, Stephanie Grisham.
During an interview on CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront, Grisham shared new insights into Melania’s state of mind amid the controversies surrounding her husband. Her comments came shortly after Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, testified in court about the former president’s alleged affairs and how Melania reacted to them.
Grisham made it clear that Melania knew exactly who she was marrying.
“She knew what she was getting into,” Grisham said. “She may have cared about how it affected his public image, but she wasn’t going anywhere.”
At that time, Donald Trump faced allegations that he falsified business records before the 2016 election to suppress negative stories including claims involving Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress who alleged she was paid hush money over an affair. Trump has denied all allegations of any relationship or wrongdoing.
Although Trump later received an unconditional discharge meaning he avoided prison, fines, or probation the case officially left him a convicted felon.
Grisham added that while Melania may have felt humiliated by the public exposure of private matters, she remained steadfast:
“Could Melania be angry about it? Absolutely. But on a personal level, she’s got a very good life, and she’s not going anywhere.”
Michael Cohen also testified that Trump showed little concern about how Melania would react to the affair allegations, appearing more focused on his presidential campaign. Cohen recalled asking Trump whether he was worried about his marriage, to which Trump allegedly replied:
“Don’t worry. How long do you think I’ll be on the market for? Not long.”
Cohen interpreted the remark as proof that Trump’s main priority was protecting his campaign, not his marriage.
Grisham agreed, saying:
“That sounds exactly like something he would say. Melania knows her life is comfortable, and she’s chosen to stay. That’s been proven time and time again.”
Undoubtedly she has a watertight, unbreakable, lucrative marriage contract which she will never relinquish. Her enduring (sic) life aim is to outlive him - ideally soon, and for many years.
