Donald Trump's 9-word response on Canada deal leaves Oval Office in stitches

The ongoing trade discussions between the United States and Canada took a light-hearted turn when former President Donald Trump gave a witty response that had everyone in the Oval Office laughing.

For months, both countries have been working to finalize a new trade agreement, but no breakthrough has been reached yet. During a Tuesday meeting in the Oval Office, Trump spoke warmly about Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, calling him “a great man” who “knows what he wants.”

One journalist then asked why, if Trump held the Canadian leader in such high regard, the two nations still hadn’t reached an agreement. Trump’s reply drew laughter from everyone present:

“Because I want to be a great man too.”

The humorous comment instantly lightened the room. Another reporter followed up, asking if Carney had done anything to stall negotiations. Trump responded with a grin, saying that while Carney is “a nice man,” he “can be very nasty” during tough talks.

“He’s a world-class leader,” Trump added. “He does a great job and he’s a tough negotiator.”

On the subject of the USMCA the successor to NAFTA Trump hinted that the U.S. might pursue separate deals with each North American country or potentially review the entire agreement.

“I don’t care,” he said. “I just want the best possible deal for our country while keeping Canada in mind.”

Despite Trump’s humor and the apparent goodwill between the two leaders, challenges remain. Both sides expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, but the road to a final deal is still full of hurdles.
