Former U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that he recently underwent an MRI scan during a medical evaluation at Walter Reed Medical Center, sparking renewed discussion about his health status.
According to a memo by White House physician Capt. Sean Barbabella, the 79-year-old leader had a “comprehensive examination” earlier this month. The assessment reportedly included advanced imaging, laboratory tests, and preventive screenings carried out by a team of medical specialists.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Japan, Trump said:
“I got an MRI. It was perfect… The results were great, absolutely perfect,”
as reported by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins.
However, some confusion followed when journalists asked the White House about the type of “advanced imaging” Trump received. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded that the tests were part of routine care but admitted she didn’t know the exact imaging used.
“I don’t know the specific type of scan, but the President is in incredibly good shape,” Leavitt said, emphasizing that Trump’s health remains “strong and active.”
Why Did Trump Need an MRI?
An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a medical scan that provides detailed internal images of the body. While it’s often used to examine organs, bones, or monitor treatment progress, it’s not typically part of a standard physical prompting many to question why it was included in Trump’s latest checkup.
When asked directly about the purpose of the MRI, Trump replied:
“You can ask the doctors. They said these were some of the best reports they’ve ever seen.”
Ongoing Concerns About Trump’s Health
This examination marks Trump’s second major health checkup this year an unusual move since his previous one was just six months ago, in April. His unexpected visit to Walter Reed earlier this month triggered speculation about potential health concerns.
In July, Trump was diagnosed with a chronic vein condition after being photographed with visibly swollen ankles. He referred to that consultation as a “semi-annual checkup,” claiming he prefers staying “ahead of schedule” with his health monitoring.
Capt. Barbabella’s latest report described Trump’s condition as “exceptional”, highlighting his cardiovascular, neurological, and physical performance, even stating that Trump has the heart health of a 65-year-old.
Still, the memo omitted details about Trump’s vein condition and the frequent bruising observed on his hands. Leavitt previously explained that the bruises were likely due to handshakes combined with aspirin use, part of a common cardiovascular prevention regimen.
Summary
While official reports maintain that Donald Trump remains in good health, the inclusion of an MRI scan and the timing of his medical visits continue to spark public interest and debate. For now, the former president insists he’s feeling “better than ever,” but his medical transparency remains a talking point among both supporters and critics.
