Donald Trump Blames Democrats for Ukrainian Woman’s Murder in North Carolina, Highlights Crime Concerns
Former President Donald Trump has sparked controversy by attributing blame to Democrats for the tragic murder of a Ukrainian refugee in North Carolina. In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump shared a photo of the victim, Iryna Zarutska, and the alleged perpetrator, Decarlos Brown Jr., calling attention to the circumstances surrounding the attack.
According to Trump, the 23-year-old Ukrainian, who fled her country after Russia’s invasion in 2022, was brutally stabbed while riding the light rail in Charlotte. Trump described the crime as a “horrific ambush by a mentally deranged individual” and emphasized that the accused had a criminal record and had been released on cashless bail multiple times.
Trump’s post accused Democrats, including former Governor Roy Cooper, of failing to keep dangerous criminals off the streets. He further promoted Republican candidate Michael Whatley, suggesting that electing him would prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Political Reactions and Statements
Kate Smart, spokesperson for Governor Cooper’s campaign, condemned the attack as “heartbreaking” and accused Whatley of misrepresenting his support for law enforcement funding policies. Smart highlighted Cooper’s record, emphasizing his efforts to prosecute violent criminals and protect communities in North Carolina.
National Guard Deployment and Crime Concerns
The incident coincides with Trump’s ongoing efforts to address violent crime, including deploying the National Guard to Washington, D.C. In August, he announced sending 800 troops to the capital, claiming control over the Metropolitan Police Department in response to rising crime concerns. Despite Trump’s claims of increased violence, official MPDC statistics indicate that violent crime in Washington, D.C., decreased after peaking in 2023, reaching a 30-year low in 2024.
Trump has also expressed intentions to send National Guard members to other cities, such as Chicago, highlighting his broader focus on law and order as a key political message.
