Trump marks 9/11 anniversary with first public appearance since Charlie Kirk shooting



On Wednesday, President Donald Trump paid tribute to conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was tragically shot earlier in the day.

The President and First Lady Melania Trump attended a solemn ceremony at the Pentagon to mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The event came just hours after news of Kirk’s death broke. The Pentagon attack on 9/11 claimed the lives of 125 people at the building and 59 passengers on board the hijacked plane.

Following the ceremony, President Trump is scheduled to travel to New York, where he will attend the Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers game, as well as join 9/11 memorial observances at Ground Zero and Shanksville, Pennsylvania the crash site of Flight 93.

During his remarks at the Pentagon, Trump announced that Charlie Kirk will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously. While the date of the award ceremony has not been set, he said he expected a “very big crowd” to attend.

Meanwhile, investigators continue to look into the shooting. Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason revealed that authorities have tracked the suspect’s movements onto a campus, through stairwells, and onto a rooftop where the shooting occurred. After the attack, the suspect reportedly fled the scene by jumping from the roof and running off campus.

Officials believe the shooter is “of college age” and managed to blend in with the student population. FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls confirmed that a high-powered bolt-action rifle was recovered in a wooded area, believed to be the weapon used in the attack. Investigators also have images of the suspect, though they are not releasing full details at this stage.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to Kirk’s death.
