Why is Vladimir Putin’s top propagandist calling for strikes on London and NATO leaders?
Russian state TV host and Kremlin ally Vladimir Solovyov has escalated his threats against the West, openly suggesting that NATO defence ministers meeting in London could be treated as “legitimate targets.”
Speaking on a state-controlled channel, Solovyov compared Israel’s strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar with what Russia could potentially do to Western officials. He ranted that if NATO leaders gather in London to plan support for Ukraine, then Russia should consider hitting them directly.
This latest outburst came during the Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting (Ramstein format), where UK Defence Secretary John Healey, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte pledged over £2 billion in new military support for Ukraine.
Solovyov’s rhetoric has grown increasingly extreme. Within just a week, he has threatened nuclear attacks on Britain, spoken of “frying pan in hell” strikes, and even suggested using Russia’s high-speed atomic torpedoes to sink the UK.
The propagandist also repeated unproven claims that President Volodymyr Zelensky orders assassinations inside Russia, calling him a “terrorist” who should be targeted anywhere he travels — whether in Berlin, London, or elsewhere.
His comments reflect a wider hardening of Kremlin propaganda as Russia steps up its attacks in Ukraine. Recent strikes have hit a bridge over the Dnipro River, Ukraine’s cabinet of ministers building in Kyiv, and civilian areas where at least 23 people, mostly elderly, were killed.
Many analysts see Solovyov’s fiery threats as part of a deliberate campaign by Moscow to intimidate the West while justifying further escalation in Ukraine.
