Nigel Farage has once again spoken warmly about Donald Trump, praising the former US president as “amazing, dynamic, and energetic.”
The Reform UK leader recently met Trump in the Oval Office during a short visit to Washington, where he was invited to give evidence about free speech issues in the UK.
In an interview ahead of the trip, Farage described Trump as “enormous fun to be with” and even mimicked the president’s famous speaking style, saying: “So, great.” He explained that Trump is full of energy, but added: “Don’t upset him, because I know what it’s like if he’s not happy with you.”
Farage also said that while he doesn’t talk to Trump as often as before, he still values their friendship. “These days he’s got a lot on his plate,” Farage admitted, recalling how they stayed in contact more frequently when Trump was spending time at Mar-a-Lago.
He even shared a photo of himself with Trump at the Resolute Desk, a symbolic image that underlines their political closeness.
During his testimony on Capitol Hill, Farage compared Britain’s restrictions on free expression to authoritarian regimes like North Korea. He highlighted two recent cases that raised concerns: the arrest of Irish writer Graham Linehan for online comments about transgender issues, and the imprisonment of Lucy Connolly, the wife of a Conservative councillor, for posting racially charged remarks about asylum seekers after the Southport tragedy.
Farage’s remarks are likely to stir debate both in the UK and internationally, particularly as Trump continues his comeback bid in American politics and Farage positions himself as a defender of free speech.
