During the state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, September 17, Melania Trump became the center of attention not just for her presence, but for her fashion choice.
The former First Lady wore a striking yellow Carolina Herrera gown, accentuated with a pink belt, turquoise earrings, and soft waves in her hair. While the look was undeniably glamorous, the off-the-shoulder cut sparked mixed reactions.
Some royal watchers pointed out that members of the Royal Family traditionally opt for modest, conservative outfits at state banquets. For instance, Kate Middleton wore a full-length hand-embroidered gold lace coat by Phillipa Lepley over a silk gown, while Queen Camilla chose a royal blue Fiona Clare dress paired with a sapphire tiara and diamond necklace. Compared to these classic and formal looks, Melania’s shoulder-revealing gown stood out sharply.
Fashion etiquette experts often note that royal occasions carry strict dress codes. Shoulders covered, hems below the knee, and overall modesty are usually expected, particularly when dining with the monarch. Critics on social media echoed this view, calling Melania’s choice “inappropriate” for the occasion.
Still, not everyone agreed. Supporters praised her bold color choice, noting that yellow directly contrasted with Camilla’s royal blue, making Melania visually stand out in group photos. One admirer even called it a “clever style move,” while others simply described her as “beautiful” and “amazing.”
Love it or dislike it, Melania Trump’s yellow gown certainly achieved one thing it made her the most talked-about guest at Windsor Castle.
Inappropriate on MANY levels!
ReplyDeleteWell, the choices were to fall in line, or make her presence felt as an equal, while wearing an outfit that represented her values, her presence as an equal, and yes, her beauty. I don't agree with just about anything Trump has done.. But I do think Melania chose a brilliant outfit that made a statement, and it's a statement I don't see a problem with.
DeleteIn typical ‘Trump’ style of oneupmanship, Melania did make a statement. Those two are perfect together…no class, respect or manners for anyone.
